This is a spirit house. Whenever you build a home or building in Thailand you have to put up a spirit house. It is believed that spirits live on the land that you are building on. Therefore, you have to build a spirit house to give the spirits as place to dwell. The spirit house must be in a prominent place and it must receive daily offerings. This seems to be an older custom dating before the diffusion of Buddhism. I believe it comes from earlier animistic beliefs and was incorporated into Thai Buddhism. Posted by Picasa

An elephant cooling off outside of the Floatel. It was a neat hotel owned by the same party that owned our resort. It had no electricity, but was exceptional clean and rested right on the river. Posted by Picasa
The kids took a picture with students at the Mon's village school. The school runs on money that the tourist bring. Most of the students are learning Mon, Thai, and English along with math. Posted by Picasa

We went to a cave in the national park near the resort. It was not as spectacular as Postojnska jama, but it was enjoyable and they let you take pictures. Posted by Picasa

After landing in Thailand, we took a taxi to Kanchanaburi. It is the site of the bridge over the river Kwai. This is the longtail boat that took us to a riverside resort in the jungle. Posted by Picasa
Jenny does a project with sequencing in writing with her students. She puts monster footprints all over the classroom and the students have to write out the sequence of events that took place. She made this display from to show off their writing. Posted by Picasa
Students came to my room for a puppet play during the Kindness Karnival. The students enjoyed putting it on and the younger students enjoyed the show. Posted by Picasa
This is Jenny's Gingerbread House 2005. It was great. It took her all night to make. She made it for the staff Christmas party. Posted by Picasa
